Rational Rose 2007 Licence: Online and Offline Methods Explained

In 2001, the University's Department of Psychology and the new School of Cognitive, Perceptual, Motor and Speech Sciences came together in a joint Centre for Cognitive Neuroscience (CCN), which was set up as part of a continuing government programme of neurological-paralytic research grants (the CNS programme) in a personal capacity to Professor John Duncan (2001 ; Director, Neurosciences and Rehabilitation Research Unit (NRU)) with considerable support from the University. The joint research programme had been developed through a series of research projects funded by the Department of Health, Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), and the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) in their early years. This work continues to be focused on investigating the multisensory basis of the neural and cognitive mechanisms that underpin perceptual, motor, and cognitive processes and attention. One research project was the Multisensory Research in Motor Control and Learning (MRMCL; Home, Duncan and James-Ward 2007 ) funded by the Home Office (HMSO) where the Universities of Nottingham and York collaborated to help restore the mobility of patients with disorders of the central nervous system including stroke and cerebral palsy (McCarthy and Rose 2007a ; Duncan and Rose 2007 ). The research centres on the development of treatments to improve the ability of patients with neurological disorders to retain, and possibly regain, the use of their remaining motor and perceptual faculties.
